Bernie’s Bakery Head Quarters is a family-owned, purpose-built bakery/factory specifically designed for large volume manufacture of wholesale and retail foods. We combined a café frontage which is in an ideal strategic location on State Highway 1 – Washdyke Timaru. Café visitors enjoy both a wide selection of freshly made foods. While waiting for their coffee, they can observe the manufacturing process in real time.
We have a total of four retail/café outlets including– Geraldine (Berry Barn), Palmerston (McGregor’s), Dunedin (Marlow Pies) and Timaru (Bernies Bakery HQ)
Registered as McGregor’s Trading Group Ltd, Bernie and Rilla Sugrue employ 52 full-time staff covering all manufacturing, dispatch, administration and customer service.
We take enormous pride in the quality of our product and this is reflected in sales growth throughout supermarkets, dairies and general public around New Zealand including other bakeries!
We offer our clients a huge range of soft breads, pastries, savouries, biscuits, slices, all-occasion cakes great range of gelato, and, of course, our famous pies.
Often referred to as May’s Bakery, we manufacture this iconic product which is sought after throughout the country. We field regular enquiries nationwide as to how the product may be sourced. We included a picture of the Famous May’s pie on the cover.
Equally iconic is the Mc Gregor’s mutton pie, principally sold from our Palmerston outlet for over 105 years. Similarly, to May’s Pies, these are demanded nationwide.
The Iconic Marlow pie is another New Zealand favourite – particularly with the Otago schools and ‘Scarfies’.
